The Public Health Service Document on the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation will be published in May 2000. Contractual obligations forbid discussing specifics regarding the project prior to publication. Upon publication of the Update, this Abstract will be amended to discuss the Update findings regarding special populations and topics including, adolescents, pregnant smokers, racial and ethnic minorities, weight gain and cost-effectiveness.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant in this session will be able to: 1. Describe the recommendations for smoking cessation for pregnant women as reported in the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation. 2. Describe the recommendations for tobacco dependence treatment for racial and ethnic minorities as reported in the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation. 3. Describe the recommendations for tobacco dependence treatment for older adults as reported in the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation. 4. Understand the implications of weight gain in smoking cessation as reported in the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation. 5. Describe the cost-effectiveness of providing treatment for smoking cessation as reported in the Updated AHCPR Clinical Practice Guideline for Smoking Cessation
