Performance-Based Training System for Community Health Workers in Urban Asthma

A performance-based training system for community health workers developed at the YES WE CAN Urban Asthma Partnership of the San Francisco State University/City College Department of Health Education will be discussed. Career and education paths for community health workers, especially those who may not qualify for traditional college programs, will be discussed. The presentation will focus on recruitment, curriculum, feedback and mentoring of community health workers.

Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to describe performance based training. 2. Participants will be able to list five reasons for using performance based training with community health workers
