Community assessment is one of the most complex skills taught in nursing programs. Application of the nursing process to the community as client is often overwhelming to students. In order to facilitate and simplify the process, a web-based tool which incorporates both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of data collection was developed. Detailed listings of hard copy resources and direct internet links were incorporated into the body of the assessment tool in order to reduce the complexity of the data gathering process. Simplifying the data collection phase of the community diagnosis project allowed students to focus more on the analysis of the data and program planning.

Learning Objectives: Identify the advantages of providing students with a web-based tool for community assessment. Incorporate quantitative and qualitative data collection areas into community assessment tools. Specify the advantages to including resource lists and web links in community assessment tools

Keywords: Assessments, Internet Tools
