Abstract #16925

Dealing With Disparities in Health and in Health Services

Linda Rae Murray, MD, Cook County Bureau of Health Services, 6337 South Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637, 312-747-7705, lindarae@interaccess.com

This presentation will discuss issues that would remain unresolved even if financial mechanisms guaranteeing universal access to medical care were enacted. These unresolved issues include maldistribution of medical resources and disparities based on race, class and gender in the delivery of medical services for populations with the same health insurance coverage. Determinants of population health and how a national health program might be designed to improve the health status of the nation will be addressed.

Learning Objectives: Discuss how health system reform might correct the maldistribution of medical resources across race, class and gender

Keywords: Equal Access, Health Care Access
