Abstract #17377

EPA's Regional Air Quality Initiative

Mindy S. Lubber, JD, U.S. EPA, Region 1, Acting Regional Administrator, EPA New England, One Congress Street, Suite 1100, Boston, MA 02114, 617/918-1014, spejewski.andrew@epa.gov

Poor air quality -- indoor and outdoors -- is an environmental problem that creates severe public health concerns and often large health disparities. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is particularly committed to addressing the disproportionate impacts urban residents and other groups suffer due to poor air quality. This presentation will cover some of the ways EPA's New England office is addressing this on a regional level by building cooperative efforts involving state officials, local officials, representatives of non-profit organizations and citizens. Topics addressed include regionwide efforts to control ozone and particulate pollution, regional air toxics initiatives, and successful programs to address indoor air quality in schools and other spaces.
