Using a new "capacity tree for integration" conceptual framework and participatory methodology, policy makers and program practitioners in Ecuador, Madagascar, India and Washington DC participated in a series of workshops convened by the University of Michigan Population-Environment Fellows Program (PEFP). The aim of the workshops was to enable participants to discuss in depth their work experiences and challenges in integrating population and environment. The framework allows participants to identify and analyze the various components present in linked/integrated population and environment programs, including organizational capacities, enabling factors and constraints, linked/integrated program activities, expected outcomes and indicators. This framework is now being used by the PEFP with various organizations for planning new integrated/linked population and environment programs in a number of countries. Process for use of the framework and methodology will be demonstrated and results from the workshops will be shared.
