Elizabeth Sommers, MS, LicAc, MPH, AIDS CARE, , bsommers@aidscare.org

Presenters will discuss the results of a descriptive study on 318 female clients at the AIDS CARE Project and several of its satellite centers. Data are taken from intake material and provide a profile of women receiving acupuncture treatment during the 1999 calendar. Medical concerns and reasons for seeking acupuncture will also be discussed. Pain management, stress reduction, and control of side-effects due to medication comprise some of the major reasons for seeking acupuncture treatment.

Learning Objectives: Discussion of data that suggests acupuncture is an appropriate and desirable intervention for a wide variety of women living with HIV/AIDS
