The F.A.C.E.D. Faith-based Health Team model has proven to be an excellent way to outreach into the community. The mission of Faith Access to Community Economic Development, a community based, not-for profit organization is to meet the identified needs - physical, emotional and spiritual - of low income residents within Flint/Genesee County, Michigan. Since 1993, F.A.C.E.D. has worked to train, develop, and empower members of local faith communities to share information about health and related issues. The growth from seven to more than 40 teams, indicates the importance and success of this project. The health team network is multi-denominational and addresses a broad range of health issues. This network of churches, in collaboration with health and human service agencies, other community-based organizations as well as individuals committed to improving the health status of the community, has made a significant impact within the community at large. This concept lifts up the spiritual element and strongly encourages "Spreading the Good News of Good Health. We will discuss the importance of understanding the philosophy of the Health Team network as well as important concepts and methods to consider when working to effectively engage the faith community in health prevention and promotion activities.
