The Southern Health Association is a regional public health association made up of members from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. It was formed 19 years ago and continues to meet annually. Many public health problems and solutions in the member states are similiar. While solutions to the public health problems in each state must be handled within the confines of the political structure and culture in the individual states, some issues lend themselves to regional collaboration and support.
One such issue is the repeated attempts to fragment public health from environmental health at the state level. The presenter will showcase how a regional approach has successfully addressed this effort thus far. The presenter will also discuss ways in which individual states in a region can come together to share their experiences and work together to impact public health outcomes in a positive manner.
