Abstract #17678

CHIS: Measuring health needs of adults, adolescents, and children

Elaine G. Zahnd, PhD, Public Health Institute, 2001 Addison Street, 2nd Floor, Berkeley, CA 94703, 925/283-6432, ezahnd@webbnet.com

CHIS is collecting information on the health status, health conditions, health insurance coverage and access to care, and other health issues for adults, adolescents, and children in California. The adult, adolescent and child survey instruments were designed—with input from a wide range of experts—to gather information that can be used to guide state and local policies, monitor traditional measures of the public’s health, and assess achievement of goals for improving the health and access to health care of Californians. CHIS emphasizes measures that will enable analysts to compare California and local areas with other states and the nation as a whole, and assess progress in reducing disparities among population groups and geographic areas.
