Ninez Alafriz Ponce, MPP, PhD, UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, UCLA School of Public Health, Box 951772, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1772, 310/206-4021, nponce@ucla.edu

CHIS has developed a comprehensive multicultural health strategy to maximize inclusion of ethnic and racial minorities, to linguistically and culturally adapt the questionnaires, and to provide a multi-culturally competent interviewer training curriculum. CHIS has devoted considerable resources to achieve these objectives, drawing on the expertise of researchers and advocates from these constituencies. CHIS’s multicultural health emphasis is a critical component in efforts to measure and reduce disparities in health status and access to health care.
