Lesbian Health Foundation

In 1999, the Institutes of Medicine released a report considered a milestone in lesbian health advocacy; “Lesbian Health: Current Assessment and Directions for the Future”. Never before has health research and health related issues concerning lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered women been elevated to near national awareness.

The mission of the Lesbian Health Foundation is to increase awareness and understanding regarding the special health needs of lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered women among policy makers, health care professionals, researchers, and the public.

LHF provides: *A WEB-based clearinghouse for research, resources, and information on lesbian, bisexual and transgendered women's health.

*Education and training for health care professionals so that they may better serve their lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered female clients.

*A national Speakers Bureau for educating and raising awareness regarding the special health needs of lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered women.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and utilize a web-based clearinghouse for research, resources, and information on lesbian, bisexual and transgendered women's health and conduct a search of the Lesbian Health Foundation website
