The University of Rhode Island Home*A*Syst Program is a voluntary, residential pollution prevention program which trains residents to identify pollution risks in and around their home and to take actions to minimize those risks. The Brownfields project was developed and implemented in the Rhode Island pilot communities using the Home*A*Syst program model of understanding risks, identifying risks and taking actions to minimize risks. We utilized the Brownfields publication as a training tool in community workshops. A companion slide presentation was also developed to serve as a training guide. The publication was introduced to community groups as a tool to help them get involved in Brownfield redevelopment projects in their neighborhoods. Following the basic introduction of the subject matter, Jane Sherman with the Providence Plan presented specifics of what's happening in the communities and talk to you about how to get involved. The publication and related information are on the web at www.edc.uri.edu/homeasyst.
