The clinical laboratory industry has undergone substantial change over the past decade, in terms of government regulation, reimbursement methodologies, and industrial structure. This paper examines trends in expenditures, utilization and payment rates for clinical laboratory services that are the results of and to some extent the determinants of these changes.
