This session will focus on the biomonitoring work of the Division of Laboratory Sciences, National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Biomonitoring assesses individual human exposure by measuring toxic substances directly in human specimens, such as blood or urine. This session will describe the major categories of substances measured by the NCEH laboratory including: pesticides, metals, volatile organic compounds, dioxins, furans, PCBs, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, phthalates, and phytoestrogens. The session will discuss data on the populationís exposure to these substances, as well as studies that have used biomonitoring measurements to assess the impact of exposure on development of disease.
