Abstract #17992

Going Beyond the Feds: Corporate Involvement and Funding Sources To Eliminate Disparity

James Forde, BCHW, , Jafor123@aol.com

Of particular interest to our caucus and to other APHA members is the role played by Foundations and other grant givers in this nation-wide health effort to reduce disparity.

Areas that will be discussedinclude the following:

1. Given the existence of these disparities for many years, what new approaches have grant makers encouraged in their funding initiatives? 2. What unique approaches have grant makers taken in involving consumers in the development of their own initiative? 3. Other than simply requiring grant recipients to have the wherewithal to continue the program after grant funding, what other unique approaches to sustainability have been developed? 4. Other than the provision of funds are there other avenues that foundations have taken to assist community agencies in the elimination of health disparities? 5. What are some key factors for community-based agencies that are interested in joining in this battle, and need to access funding from foundations and other grant givers?
