Karen D. Klimowski, MPH and JoDe L. Walp, MPH;MEd. Office on Smoking and Health, Program Services Branch, Center's for Disease Control and Prevention, 4770 Buford Highway MS K-67, Atlanta, GA 30341, 770-488-1201, kik4@cdc.gov

In 1999, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office on Smoking and Health began a new initiative funding all 50 States and the District of Columbia to implement comprehensive tobacco prevention and control programs. The launch of this program required monitoring the implementation of state activities funded through the CDC initiative. It became imperative to design a program monitoring system to meet states’ and CDC’s information and reporting needs.

CDC staff developed The National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) Chronicle to assist in capturing state specific data on tobacco prevention and control program implementation. The Chronicle is a web-based data entry system that captures information on state program activities related to eliminating exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, promoting quitting among adults and youth, preventing initiation among youth and identifying and eliminating disparities among population groups.

This presentation will provide an overview of the NTCP Chronicle and present tobacco prevention and control strategies, reported by states, to address identifying and eliminating disparities among population groups. The strategies will include specific interventions related to eliminating exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, promoting quitting among adults and youth, and preventing initiation among youth in ethnic minority and other disparate population groups.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the National Tobocco Control Program Chronicle. 2. Discuss tobacco control and prevention program activities addressing ethnic minority and other disparate population groups states are implementing 3. Identify appropriate tobacco prevention and control activities to implement within their states or communities

Keywords: Tobacco Control, Ethnic Minorities
