This presentation will share the results of a project designed to increase the involvement of males in two sexual and reproductive health (S&RH) clinics operated by INPPARES in Lima, Peru. The project achieved impressive results (17% increase in male visits) in the first 6 months of the project. The project was designed on the basis of a KAP survey, including expectations, conducted among male clients and non-clients of the clinics. As a result of the baseline study, a decision was made to work on two areas: 1.Provision of services (opening of a male clinic, increasing the number of male doctors providing services, training personnel on service provision to males, conducting periodic client satisfaction studies, redesigning medical protocols with an integrated sexual and reproductive health perspective) and 2. Demand for services (through participation on public events addressed to males, networking with other organizations working with males and mass media campaigns). The results to date indicate not only increases in service provision to males, but increases in attendance by couples, increases in revenues for services provided and changes in the age categories to which services are provided (an increase of 12% in services to men over 45 years of age).
Learning Objectives: -Identify basic steps to design and develop services for men. -Identify the most effective strategies for involving males in the provision of sexual and reproductive health clinical services with a gender perspective. -Identify strategies that contribute to increased sustainability of sexual and reproductive health
