Preceptor perspective

To Be Determined, Center for Public Health Practice, University of California, Berkeley, 140 Warren Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-7360, 510-643-0969, N/A

The preceptors serve a crucial role in the students' professional development. The preceptors work with the students during their internships to focus career goals and to provide the link between the academic learning and practice worlds.

The Center has established a number of vehicles to strengthen the ties between the School of Public Health and the preceptors and their sites. These range from continuing education opportunities to focus groups on preceptor expectations and needs.

The challenge for the preceptors is to feel integral to the academic process. This session will include a presentation by a preceptor.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to: · Understand the role of the preceptor in the professional development process · Describe the challenges in establishing and maintaining strong relationships between the preceptors and the School of Public Health · List potential vehicles to address the challenges
