This presentation provides information on the new Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP), Formerly called Assessment and Planning Excellence Through Community Partners for Health (APEXCPH), which will have been recently released to the field in a web-based format. MAPP focuses on the local public health system and guides communities in strategically identifying and strengthening areas to improve public health services and, ultimately, health status. An emphasis on the local public health system is crucial in this age in which a collection of broad-based community entities contributes to the delivery of public health services.

The MAPP process is driven by four unique strategic assessments, each of which contribute to the identification of strategic issues and the development of a strategic plan for the local public health system. The presentation will include a description of the guidance and tools included in each of the strategic assessments: Community Themes, Local Public Health System Assessment, Community Health Status Assessment, and Forces of Change.

The presentation will focus on a description of the new MAPP tool. Information and feedback from the 45 Review Sites that conducted a community review of the draft MAPP process will also be presented, in order to highlight perspectives from a variety of communities and jurisdiction types. This session will be of particular interest to health directors and individuals interested in assessment and planning.

Learning Objectives: 1. Describe the importance of conducting a MAPP community-wide strategic planning process and how it will benefit a community and strengthen the local public health system. 2. Articulate the methodology for undertaking the APEXCPH process. 3. Describe the skills and resources a local public health system needs to undertake the APEXCPH process
