This paper addresses seeks to tell the story of what constitutes good health care and why. Personal experiences can tell us quite a lot about what constitutes good health care and where we would like to see it improved. Using a multitude of qualitative research techniques, including the theatre techniques of Augusto Boal, body movement and, discussion, this paper illuminates the obscurity and contradictions across and between definitions that arise when we cannot understand the perspective of the other. It is our finding that disparities in healthcare are most clearly shown when the perspective of the other is not taken into account. How can we begin to honor different voices and create health care that reflects our listening of these perspectives? Through reflecting upon these questions in the context of our own research and opening them to our audience as well, we seek to gain a better understanding of how to create the health care we need for the future.
Learning Objectives: 1. During this session, participants will become aware of the variety of definitions of the term "disparities in health care" and begin to transform their behavior. 2. During the session the participants will show how disparities in the delivery of health care stem from differences in understanding. 3. As a group, the participants will create new definitions of health care that eliminate the disparities and hold multiple standpoints
