Through a cooperative agreement with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is creating three new Case Studies in Environmental Medicine. The first monograph developed was "Evaluation of Children Exposed to Environmental Hazards". The objectives of this educational monograph are to help the primary health care provider to (1) describe how and why children differ from adults in their susceptibility to environmental hazards, (2) incorporate environmental medical techniques in the evaluation of well and sick children, (3) consider parental occupation as a part of the environmental history, and (4) access additional resources for environmental medical information and advice. This monograph is available in hard copy form and in electronic form on the Internet. The presentation will describe the content of the case study and its uses as a tool for medical education and health promotion.
Learning Objectives: The objectives of the monograph described in the presentation are to teach learners to (1) describe how and why children differ from adults in their susceptibility to environmental hazards (2) incorporate environmental medical techniques in the evaluation of well and sick children, and(3) access additional resources for environmental medical information and advice
