The linking of academia and practice is vital to the over-all education and development of the student of public health.

The classroom preparation for the internship, allows the student to reflect upon his/her assets and capabilities, further develop these skills, and acquire new competencies in preparation for the internship.

The actual internship experience - the putting into practice the theoretical and academic - offers the space for the student to explore the lived reality of public health practice and subsequently grow in knowledge and experience.

During this session, a student will discuss the challenges, joys, and over-all learnings of his summer internship. The discussion is framed by his unfolding recognition of the essential role of praxis - the union of theory and practice.

Learning Objectives: Learning objectives to be achieved during the session include being able to: Describe the challenges, learnings, and joys of the internship experience Understand the role of the internship in the student’s over-all education
