What are safe places? How do we create then and what do they mean, particulary as we move into the twenty first century? Safe places for healing are needed due to the feelings of betrayal by our bodies, ourselves and others during illness. This presentation stems from a qualitative research project that seeks to authentically know the other, so that one can authentically know themselves and in doing so begin a healing process working toward forgiving and accepting of one's self, body, and others. While this is the ultimate goal, it is recognized that it is not always possible and that the greatest benefit occurs in the process which creates a place for our physical, emotional, and psychological scars and wounds to be honored. This knowledge provides the tools which make it easier to eliminate the disparities in the delivery of Health Care.
