Hope Worden, MSW and Tina Nappi, MSW. Passageway, Brigham and Women's Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Neville 202, Boston, MA 02115, 617-278-0366, HWorden@Partners.org

The purpose of the presentation is to inform participants about the utility of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools and techniques to improve health care interventions with domestic violence. Health care is becoming increasingly invested in addressing domestic violence for two reasons. First, domestic violence has a tremendous impact on the health and well-being of women who are patients and employees of hospitals and health centers. Second, in the course of regular service delivery, health care institutions have a unique opportunity to create access to resources which can increase safety for women from all walks of life and at various stages of abusive relationships. The presentation will provide an overview of CQI and its impact on screening protocols and training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and affiliated community health centers. Participants will learn about the key principles of quality improvement work, including the role of a multi-disciplinary working group, how to clarify overall and specific project aims, measuring and documenting improvements, and using data to create systems change. Participants will learn about the importance of patient and employee perspectives in shaping effective interventions and how CQI can be a cost-effective method for achieving results. At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will understand how to plan and implement a CQI project aimed at improving a health care site response to domestic violence, and how to use data to assess needs, understand problems, and formulate solutions. Information shared in this presentation will be useful to health care administrators and practitioners.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will understand how to plan and implement a Continuous Quality Improvement project aimed at improving a health care site response to domestic violence, and how to use data to assess needs, understand problems, and formulate solutions
