This presentation will discuss an innovative model for delivering mental health services on-site to women and children survivors of domestic violence. Nehemiah's Way provides long-term support services, including transitional housing, to women and their children during the healing process. The overarching goal of the program is self-sufficiency. Montco-Mercy Nursing & Community Partnership is a nurse-managed collaborative partnership among four organizations representing public, private, and government sectors in the community. The women are empowered as partners in the continuum of care service plan which is discussed. Specific mental health services related to unique needs are outlined and include intake and assessment, individual psychotherapy, support groups, children's play groups, mental health promotion/education, and crisis intervention. Parenting skills and education are also emphasized in order to break the cycle of violence. Results indicate that these on-site services are cost-effective, empower women survivors during the healing process, provide a continuum of care including community services, and support the women in developing the strength and skills to rebuild their lives.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant should be able to: 1. Identify the advantages of a partnership model in providing mental health services to women survivors. 2. Describe the unique needs, continuum of care and related mental health services for this constituency. 3. Discuss the outcomes related to the healing and empowerment of domestic violence survivors
