The Los Angeles County Maternal Health Liaison Committee was established to promote communication, collaboration, and coordination between Health Net, an IPA model managed care organization, and the different public health-linked services. The goal of the committee is to provide quality perinatal and neonatal services to women, infants and families in Los Angeles County served by the Medi-Cal managed care system.
The first objective of the committee was to identify the current needs of the participants in the Medi-Cal managed care system. A strategic plan was then developed to meet those needs. All entities agreed that a series of trainings on perinatal services were of high priority. A key lesson was that successful trainings could only be realized if all agencies and entities involved were willing to collaborate and share resources.
This session will offer insights from developing an educational program within a Medi-Cal managed care system through collaboration and partnership with local public health agencies and other health plans. This session will highlight the challenges and process, as well as, demonstrate the methods used to achieve the training goals and objectives of the Maternal Health Liaison Committee.
Learning Objectives: 1) Describe how representatives, key to the success of the collaboration, were identified. 2) Explain the process of how public and private maternal liaisons collaborated and shared resources to accomplish results. 3) Identify the challenges and methods used to develop comprehensive perinatal services training and how these methods may be replicated to meet other educational objectives in other localities
