Liberation Medicine

Liberation Medicine is the conscious, conscientious use of health to promote social justice and human dignity. it involves active participation of the community involved, and often implies confronting power structures that resist change (often through violence: sometimes insidious, sometimes overt). In this workshop we will explore how to use our professional and volunteer positions (as health providers and in other roles) as agents of concrete, positive change. The discussion leaders form part of the volunteer association "Doctors for Global Health, DGH" (www.dghonline.org). Their experience includes work in the Americas, Asia and Africa. To read about Liberation Medicine before the workshop (recommended), visit the DGH web site. The object of this workshop is to share experiences, both positive and negative, from the group attending as well as the discussion leaders
