Public health infrastructure includes components such as data and information systems, workforce, public health organizations, resources, and prevention research. While vital to supporting the achievement of the public health mission, they have been characterized by the Institute of Medicine as in "disarray." Public health infrastructure issues and Healthy People 2010 infrastructure objectives will be overviewed, current and future efforts to support and advance public health infrastrucure by the Health Resources & Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control will be described, and the recommendations of the APHA Infrastructure Task Force will be presented. This session has been organized by the leadership of the APHA Infrastructure Task Force, the Committee on Affiliates, and the Inter-Sectional Council 1. Understand the current working definition of "public health infrastructure" and the significant issues and challenges related to data and information systems, workforce, public health organizations, resources, and prevention research 2. Understand Healthy People 2010 infrastructure objectives and their relationship to "essential services" and "leading health indicators." 3. Understand the CDC and HRSA infrastructure development efforts. 4 Understand the APHA Infrastructure Taskforce recommendations and APHA's role in infrastructure development | ||||
