Senior undergraduate nursing students completing their public health rotation are placed in health departments and other community organizations to implement interventions that address an identified need.  Often the sites are in process of implementing “canned” education programs as part of the agency’s attempt to address a health concern.  It is important that students be reminded to check the research and determine if the proposed education model has been found to be effective in achieving change in the identified population.  During this project, students were directed to search the Internet and especially the Cochrane Library site to discover what research has been done on the various programs.  Programs included in this specific study are: Open Airways for Schools, Postponing Sexual Involvement, and Reducing the Risk. Students need to be challenged to rely on research to know the best practices to use when designing intervention strategies and not to simply implement a “purchased” education-kit without questioning the effectiveness.
