The Sagamore Community Health Center recently celebrated its 10th year of providing services to an underserved population of residents, living in a public housing community. This partnership between the Sagamore residents and the faculty/students of the University of Southern Maine (CONHP) is the result of conscious deliberate efforts to build a program of care that meets the needs of this underserved community with residents of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Stakeholders include residents, CONHP faculty/students, and community agencies, such as private and public health care providers. The needs of the residents and the effectiveness of initiated programs are evaluated through a participatory action research process.
