Turning Point’s Leadership Development National Excellence Collaborative, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2000 for four years, is a multi-state collaborative whose mission is to “increase collaborative leadership capacity across sectors and at all levels.” The collaborative, comprised of representatives from seven Turning Point states and national partners, has conducted extensive research on the effect of collaborative leadership on community health improvement, and how collaborative leaders in public health and other sectors learn collaborative leadership skills. The Leadership Development Collaborative, based on research findings, is creating tools and models of collaborative leadership that can be used by leadership development training programs such as national, regional and state Public Health Leadership Institutes and within state and local health departments. These tools and models are intended to enhance and expand collaborative leadership concepts, skills, techniques and resources for inclusion in current leadership training. During this APHA 2002 session, the collaborative will preview collaborative leadership training products which will include case studies, audio/video tapes, journal articles, and models for mentoring.
