Most Americans have a vague concept of what "public health" means or can accomplish, or how greatly the work of public health professionals impacts their daily lives. An ongoing challenge for schools of public health is to convey what they do so that people going into this field continue to improve in quality and increase in numbers. Towards this end, via an ASPH/HRSA cooperative agreement, five Schools of Public Health were given funding to produce short, inspirational videos focusing on public health professionals who have been pioneers in public health.
The subjects of these videos are all luminaries in public health who have devoted their lives to making advances in this field. The videos produced about them are intended to: · introduce future public health professionals to the field of public health · to inspire these future professionals to embark on their own careers · honor and make known to the general public the many crucial accomplishments of these pioneering individuals in public health.
This session will highlight the videos completed by five Schools of Public Health and gather the subjects of these videos together, in person, to share comments about their experiences, and be available for questions and discussion in a panel format.
