Attendees will learn how to negotiate using a performance-based contracting model in this session, will come to understand the experience of the District of Columbia's Department of Health in establishing a computerized patient record system, and will understand strategies for public health organizations for building and maintaining IT infrastruture and barriers within public health organizations that preclude obtaining resources required to develop and sustain information technology in public health organizations. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant in this session will be able to 1) Describe the data elements needed to support a performance-based contract model; discuss how a web-based, interactive contract negotiation process is structured; and assess the feasibility of implementing a web-based, interactive system for contract management in their agency. 2) Summarize the opportunities presented by computerized patient record systems; review the project strategy and activities; identify partnership opportunities and key roles; understand the challenges and opportunities in implementing a computerized patient record system; and outline recommendations for facilitating project activities. 3) Identify resources available to fund IT programs in public health departments; identify strategies for securing funding and describe challenges/barriers to funding. | |||
