African-American Health Care Beliefs and Practices
In an effort to address racial disparities in health, this session will focus on cultural beliefs and health practices in areas where AFrican Americans are at particularly high risk - cancer and hypertension. Research will be presented on particpation in screening programs, targeted interventions, and use of complementary and alternative therapies.
Learning Objectives: Describe cultural beliefs and health practices in 1. African American populations and their impact on health status; 2. Describe outreach efforts to high risk populations; 3. Discuss community-parntered research in exploring complementary and alternative therapies
