The rankings have been a source of both pride and concern to the political and other establishments in the states ever since they have been published. Understanding the political and other impacts of the rankings at the state levels will help to augment their usefulness to the public health community.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand how states view the process and conclusions of the rankings, and the steps they take as a result of their positions in the rankings.
