In January 2001, the SOPHE/AAHE Task Force on Accreditation in Health Education was charged with developing a detailed plan for a coordinated accreditation system for undergraduate and graduate programs in health education. The final plan was completed in February 2004. In the spring of 2004, the plan was reviewed and considered for approval by both the AAHE Board of Directors and the SOPHE Board of Trustees. This session will provide an overview of the three-year process, present the final accreditation plan, and describe the current implementation phase of the project. Included with the overview of the process, will be a description of the various methods used to solicit input from professionals, a summary of that input, and how the input was used by the Task Force in the development of the plan. The session will also include a presentation of potential roles of individual professionals and professional organizations in the implementation phase of the project. Special emphasis will be given to a discussion of issues specifically related to small programs and collaborative programs models.
