Allies Against Asthma Coalitions: Improving Ways to Implement and Integrate Asthma Interventions
Coalitions are promising vehicles to develop and implement a wide range of asthma strategies to create more effective systems of education, care and support. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Allies Against Asthma National Program sponsors the efforts of seven coalitions in the United States. Each coalition engaged in an extensive planning process, involved a board range of stakeholders and developed community action plans that focused on strategic points of intervention to improve asthma control efforts. A range of interventions are being implemented in the home, schools and day care, with health care providers, health care systems, and in community settings. The coalitions have developed mechanisms to link and integrate programs and services at various levels. Benefits, challenges and lessons learned about the coalition support for implementing programs will be shared.
Learning Objectives: 1) Recognize coalitions are organizations that support implementing asthma programs in multiple settings, 2) Describe effective implementation of interventions for asthma control in home, clinic, schools, day care and other community settings 3) Understand models of integration for a coordinated system of care
