Burnout syndrome is seen in jobs that necessitate intensive contact with lay out people as in the case of hospital staff professions. A descriptive study was performed in Baskent University Hospitals Network to determine the burn out levels and emotional impact of the job on the employees. The study sample included 2967 staff at main university hospital and its satellite hospitals located at different provinces of the country. Data was collected through the use of several standard forms including Employee Personnel Form, Maslach Burnout Inventory and WHO General Health Questionnaire. These forms consist of 18, 22,12 questions respectively. Answers of each question were given scores (due to Likert Scale) from 0(for never) to 4(for always). The study results indicate that 62, 8 percent of the employee was female while 48, 9 percent of them were between 25-29 age groups. Smoking prevalence was 44, 8 % and the mean of smoking cigarettes per day was significantly higher in males than in females (p<0, 05). The status of general health, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment of females were significantly worse than males, respectively p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,003 and p=0,000. There are negative correlations between emotional exhaustion and working years (r= -0,282, p=0,000), depersonalization and working years (r= -0,287, p=0,000), personal accomplishment and working years (r= -0,137, p=0,000). Also statistical significant differences were determined between the working groups. The nursing staff's scores were determined as the worst one when compared with housekeeping and administrative staff.
