Reaching rural Hispanic farmworker and elderly populations: Two mobile interdisciplinary team approaches

Two projects utilizing teams of interdisciplinary health professions students to provide mobile wellness services in rural community-based settings will be described. The Idaho Hispanic Wellness Initiative – La Buena Salud, serves rural Hispanic farmworkers in Southwest Idaho, while the second project, Senior HealthMobile, serves rural geriatric residents in Southeast Idaho. Both projects emphasize wellness care and interdisciplinary teamwork in rural community-based settings, while exploring issues related to health disparities and cultural sensitivity. Health disparities and data gaps will be explored in relation to the rural elderly and rural Hispanic farmworker populations. The importance of public-private partnerships to project success will be discussed.
