Reaching the Hispanic Consumer
Increased attention to health disparities and the growing Hispanic population in the US make specific health education strategies to address this population imperative. The presentations in this session will describe challenges of providing health promotion interventions to Hispanic communities. Speakers will cover various strategies and studies delineating particular health risks of concern.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the use of public-private partnerships to reduce health disparities, particularly in Hispanic communities;
  2. Discuss lack of English proficiency as a marker of a population with decreased access, increased health-related risk factors and low health literacy; and
  3. Explain characteristics of tiendas that make them potentially viable settings for delivering health promotion interventions.
