Issues: Various actions have been taken by the Bush Administration which reflect the insertion of an ideological agenda into the conduct of peer review, funding for peer-reviewed scientific research, and the provision of sexual health information and services to Americans. These actions include efforts to block funding for peer-reviewed research by Congress, substantial increases in funding for abstinence-only education, changes in information posted on government websites about condoms and abortion, and the circulation of the infamous "hit list."
Recommendations: Now that Bush has been re-elected, we need to focus on specific ways to counter these efforts, and protect scientific research and the health of the American people. Several potential actions will be discussed.
