Abstract #122059

Fluoridation: The Foundation perspective

Marion Standish, JD, The California Endowment, 101 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, 415-343-0222, MSTANDISH@Calendow.org

Foundations should become more involved in promoting population based primary prevention measures such as community water fluoridation. The California Endowment has been actively involved in supporting the fluoridation movement in California and educating decision makers, community leaders and the public about the benefits of fluoridation, and helping to eliminate barriers to its implementation. Even though the cost of fluoridation averages less than a dollar a year per capita, financing for the implementation of fluoridation may be a significant barrier. As a result of the California Endowment support for fluoridation, millions of Californians have the health and economic benefits of fluoridation.
