Violence and Injury Epidemiology: Poster Session
In this session the learner will hear about trends in violence and injury due to intimate partner violence among blue-collar workers and high school students, and childhood sexual abuse among black and while women. The learner will also hear about unintentional injuries and the effect that injuries, both intentional and unintentional, have on individuals’ health and quality of life.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. To describe the epidemiology of burns and scalds injuries in children. 2. Recognize the feasibility and importance of conducting workplace-based intimate partner violence research among blue-collar workers. 3. Recognize the importance of exploring the pathways by which these factors directly and indirectly influence risk of intimate partner violence. 4. Describe race differences in prevalence and characteristics of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) 5. Apply techniques used to identify individuals exposed to a traumatic event who are at high risk for PTSD, depression, generalized anxiety, and alcohol abuse. 6. Describe the prevalence of and most common reasons for physical violence perpetration by husbands and wives in the Philippines. 7. Evaluate the usefulness of least restrictive and most restrictive algorithm on rates and correlates of initial non-traumatic amputations. 8. Describe the prevalence of physical dating violence in New York City public high school students. 9. Apply knowledge of parental characteristics to the development of effective, targeted intervention programs aimed at preventing farm-related injuries to youth. 10.
