Anatomy of Chronic Disease
In this session, the learner will hear about chronic health conditions including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). There also will be a discussion about whether diagnosis of a new chronic condition has an impact on modifiable risk factors such as obesity, inactivity, and smoking.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to 1. Understand the potential modifying role of a new diagnosis of a heart-related chronic condition 2. Recognize the importance of risk factor profiling early in life for cardiovascular disease risk factors 3. Understand the methods used to determine the association between NSAID use and BPH 4. Articulate the importance of public health efforts to control COPD and 5. Assess functional limitations in COPD relative to other chronic diseases
