It is about the Sex: STD Epidemiology
In this session, the learner will hear about sexually transmitted disease investigations in high school as well as high morbidity areas. The learner will also hear about syphilis outbreak investigations of both injecting and non-injecting drug users. These topics will include recruitment issues as well as the association between drug use and sexual risk behaviors.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Describe the epidemiology of a syphilis outbreak in Palm Springs, CA 2. Understand two different sampling strategies, respondent driven and targeted sampling, for recruiting injecting drug users 3. Understand the associations between non-injection and injection drug use and sexual risk behavior 4. Describe the relationship between testing positive for CT and/or GC in a high school screening and having a prior positive reported test 5. Identify risk factors associated with STD infection in a high morbidity area.
