Each year over 150,000 deaths and 1.8 million hospitalizations are due to injuries. Yet, these injuries are not “accidents” they are predictable and preventable occurrences. Prevention programs and policies are an important part of reducing these injuries. It is also valuable to evaluate and disseminate the results of injury prevention programs and policies. This session will highlight some injury prevention programs and policies as well as discuss ways to sustain injury prevention efforts.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this session the participants should be able to 1. identify priority issues for consideration in the development of injury prevention programs and policies; 2. apply varied methods and approaches to identify and implement injury prevention programs and policies; and 3. understand sustainability issues for injury prevention programs and policies as well as describe feasible methods to communicate the value of injury prevention efforts.
