Addressing Public Health Problems Through Health Education and Health Promotion
This roundtable session showcases various health education and health promotion programs, from the technology-driven to the community-based. Speakers will present details of a program working with beauty salons including a discussion of recruitment issues. In addition, another presentation on Hispanic organ donation will describe cultural issues that impact how members of this particular community may respond to organ donation. Throughout the different topics, the speakers will engage participants in discussion and provide the opportunity to ask direct questions.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Explain the particular opportunities and challenges presented by beauty salons as potential venues for health education and promotion activities; and
  2. Describe community-based approaches to public health problems, including youth violence.
