Background: Despite more frequent contacts with the healthcare system in relation with higher morbidity, overweight and obese individuals have often been shown to receive less preventive measures and to experience lower quality of care.
Objective: To evaluate the association between body weight and quality of primary care in Europe. Design: Population-based study. Setting: Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Participants: 13 859 non-institutionalized Europeans aged 50 to 79 years with a BMI > 18.5 (kg/m2), included in the Study of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) baseline and who responded to the supplementary self-administered questionnaire.
