The online course at www.ebph.org was released in Spring 2006 after a two-month review phase. In this course, learners are asked to understand and employ the evidence-based process to research and develop an intervention strategy to reduce disparities in birth outcomes in a fictitious community. Learners must navigate through the essential steps required in evidence-based decision making, receiving relevant feedback after taking each step. Participants must balance potential interventions' evidence, effectiveness and feasibility, while being sensitive to local resources and community concerns. Learners meet with experts and community members, conduct focus groups, and mine national, state and local statistics to develop a sound proposal that is ultimately submitted for review by the local health department commissioner. Learners receive instant feedback on their decisions. Submission of a sound proposal receives appropriate feedback, while a flawed proposal is critiqued and adjusted.
This presentation will include feedback from the users who completed the course, pre- and post-test results, and follow-up evaluation findings.
